Franklin Kinkade Creston

Franklin Kinkade, 93, of Creston died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.

Celebration of life services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell with military rites given by the Theodore J. Martens, Creston VFW Post No. 1797. The family will greet friends at a luncheon following the burial on Friday at Cromwell Church. Memorials are to be established. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Franklin Carrell Kinkade, son of Elmer Eden Kinkade and Evelyn Harrison, was born May 12, 1922, in Cromwell. He graduated from Cromwell High School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force in April of 1944 until his honorable discharge in November of 1945.

In March of 1944, Franklin married Marjorie Choate. They later divorced.

On Jan. 1, 1981, Franklin married Yvonne “Vonnie” (Campbell) Schlapia in Cromwell. He owned and operated his own business of underground construction and land improvement. Franklin lived in Union County most of his life where he owned Kinkade Industries and later Kinkade Sales for many years.

Franklin was a member of Rotary, Creston Chorus, Toastmasters, Republican Central Committee, American Legion and was former president of the Land Improvement Contractors of America. He was also a member of 10,000 Crestonians, McKinley Lake Ski Club and held several positions with Cromwell Church including Sunday school superintendent.

Franklin is survived by his wife Vonnie of Creston; daughters, Connie Kinkade and Carla Kinkade, both of Creston; sons, Keith (Judy) Kinkade of Chestnutridge, Missouri; Kerry (Helen) Kinkade of Overland Park, Kansas; stepchildren, Mark (Ruthie) Schlapia of Diagonal; Lora (Bruce) Rezmer of Peoria, Arizona; Janis (Jim) Schuberth of Blue Springs, Missouri; Joan Woods of Independence, Missouri; sister Ernestine Knott of Fairborne, Ohio; sister-in-law Juanita Finestead of Des Moines; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, eight step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Franklin was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Carolyn Frazier, Cliffta Francis, Ariel Fischel, Harry Kinkade, Lloyd Kinkade and Clyde Kinkade.
