Kenneth Abel, 87, of Creston died Nov. 23, 2015, at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

Celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. Burial will be at a later date at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell. The Rev. Delores Doench will officiate. Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Kenny Abel memorial fund for later designation of local use. Kenneth E. Abel, son of Abner Earl Abel and Gladys (Worden) Abel, was born July 7, 1928, at home in Silver City. He was educated through Cromwell High School.

On Dec. 7, 1947, Kenneth married Darlene Mae (Cramer) Abel in the Cromwell Church. They lived in rural Creston where Kenny was a life-long farmer. He was a member of Platte Center Presbyterian Church and National Farmers Organization.

Kenneth is survived by his daughters, Dianna (Steve) Schieffer of Creston, Debra (William) Rutledge of Arispe and Dawna Abel of Greenbelt, Maryland; sons, Dennis (Carolyn) Abel of Creston, Douglas (Amanda) Abel of Hudson, Colorado, Jeffrey (Chris) Abel of Brighton, Colorado, and Charles (Jennifer) Abel of Winterset; brother Chet (Betty) Abel of Creston; sisters, Loretta (Arnold) Petersen of Atlantic, Mary Bryant of Lenox, Bert Purdum of Lenox and Carol (Jack) Anderson of Manhattan Beach, California; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, AE and Gladys Abel; father- and mother-in-law, John and Elsie Cramer; wife Darlene in August of 2015; son Michael Abel; sisters, Evelyn Abel and Beverly Mohr; brothers-in-law, Gaylord Doonan, Bud Bryant, Dale Purdum, Bill Mohr, Ray Padelford and Jim Moffitt; sister-in-law Delvian Padelford; grandson Justin Sprague and great-great-grandson Chace Noble.
