OSKALOOSA — The final session in a three-part series for young and beginning graziers in southern Iowa is set for Dec. 14. Iowa State University (ISU) Extension beef program specialist Pat Wall said this event will focus on winter feeding and grazing.
“We’ll start at 5:30 p.m. at the Mahaska County Extension Office in Oskaloosa with a meal sponsored by the Mahaska County Cattlemen,” Wall said. “You don’t need to have participated in either of the two sessions held earlier this year to attend, but please preregister for an accurate meal count.”
Wall and ISU Extension beef program specialist Joe Sellers will lead discussions on various subjects following the meal, with the primary topic of winter grazing in Iowa including stockpiled forage and cornstalk residue. Fall and winter feeding, including extended grazing of cover crops and supplementation, also are on the agenda.
