CLARINDA — Creston won three of six sets in seventh-grade volleyball competition against Clarinda on Tuesday.

Creston Team One defeated Clarinda 25-17, 25-19, 7-15.

“The girls played great in sets one and two. There were some great volleys back and forth,” said Creston coach Teri Keeler. “Set three was a letdown. We have to be able to play all three to our abilities and finish them.”

Clarinda won against Creston Team Three 25-9, 25-20, 15-13.

“We struggled with serve receive,” Keeler said. “Clarinda’s numbers were small, so a lot of their harder servers served in this match as well. Set three was within reach, we just missed some served down the stretch.”

Clarinda beat Creston Team Three 25-8, 25-8, 9-15.

“It was good to see the win in the third set,” Keeler said. “The girls are getting better. They just need to get some consistency in serving and moving our feet.”

Creston plays at Red Oak on Tuesday.

CLARINDA — Creston eighth-graders won four of nine matches against Clarinda Tuesday. Because of low numbers, some Creston seventh-grade players participated in the match.

Clarinda defeated Creston Team One 25-22, 25-14, 15-12.

“After battling the first game and losing, we were flat the second game,” said Creston coach Jan Lesan. “The third game we were always behind and could not get ahead. Taking nothing away from Clarinda. They played well, communicated and moved.”

Clarinda edged Creston Team Two 25-17, 18-25, 15-11.

“We communicated and moved the second game,” Lesan said. “We were ahead in the third game and then quit and stop playing as a team.”

Six seventh-graders played in the last three games of the eighth-grade match, to allow the large seventh-grade group more total playing time on the court. Creston Team Three won 25-9, 25-20, 15-11.

“Behind the serving of Katie Adair and serve reception of Molly Sickels and Ali Van Gelder, these girls dominated their three games,” Lesan said. “Haley Plowman, Lily Pryor and Brittney Rink round out this team.”
