7th grade

The Creston/O-M seventh-grade team finally got its second game of the season Thursday in a 42-0 win over Winterset. (The Red Oak game was forfeited and the rained-out Atlantic game was postponed to Oct. 22).

“Our linemen did a great job of opening up holes and blocking downfield,” said assistant coach Jerry Hartman.

Cael Kralik rushed for 94 yards and four touchdowns for the Panthers, and completed a 34-yard pass to Colby Burg. Kralik also averaged 38 yards on his kickoffs, and went 4-of-5 on PAT kicks.

Defensively the Panthers were led by Kolby Hulett with nine tackles and two forced fumbles. Garon Wurster and Hulett each recovered two fumbles.

The interior of the Creston/O-M defense dominated the line of scrimmage as Logan Osterhout had five tackles including a 3-yard sack. Seven Mills had a 4-yard sack.

Keegan Smith blocked two Winterset punts, increasing his season total to five. The second block was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown by Mills.

“The guys in the line are really doing their jobs and continuing to learn and work hard,” Hartman said.

Creston/O-M also won the B game, 12-6, overcoming an early 6-0 Huskie lead.

Quarterback Cole Strider evened the score on a 21-yard scramble. Late in the fourth quarter Strider went 15 yards for the go-ahead touchdown.

Defensive linemen Wiley Ray and Korbyn Ringer disrupted the final Winterset possession as time ran out.

Kaden Bolton had 43 yards on eight carries for the Panthers. Strider finished with 36 yards. Ringer had four solo tackles and an assist, with two stops for losses.

The Panthers travel with the eighth grade to Clarinda on Thursday.
