WINTERSET — The Creston eighth-grade volleyball team won eight sets and lost two against Winterset on Thursday.
Creston Team One swept Winterset 21-19, 21-14, 21-11, 21-13.
“They put it all together to beat Winterset. Awesome job,” said Creston coach Jan Lesan.
Creston Team Two defeated Winterset 10-21, 4-21, 21-5, 21-16, 21-12, 21-7.
“We had a slow start in the first two games,” Lesan said. “We started to lay like a team and never looked back. Since we went two nets, we ask three seventh-graders to help us out because we only have 13 girls. Those girls were Katie Adair, Ali Van Gelder and Payten Luther.”

Creston won three of 12 sets against Winterset in seventh-grade volleyball action Thursday.
Creston Team One defeated Winterset 21-17, 17-21, 15-9.
“The girls played well enough to get the match win, but let the second set get away from them,” Creston coach Teri Keeler said. “Again, working on consistency. Kelsey Fields had a good night at the net.”
Winterset swept Creston Team Three 21-16, 21-15, 15-8.
“Our serving and serve receive struggled, which meant we didn’t get things set up like we’d like to,” Keeler said.
Winterset topped Creston Team Four 15-11, 15-7, 15-8.
“The girls are still learning the game, but getting better,” said Keeler, whose team plays at Clarinda today.
