Adel-DeSoto-Minburn edged Creston/O-M 14-7 in a competitive JV game Monday night at Panther Field.

ADM scored on its first drive to take an early 7-0 lead.

The Panthers tied the game with 40 seconds left in the half on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Fitzgerald to Cody Wagner. The PAT was good by Landon Guhse.

ADM then scored on its second possession of the second half, driving the ball 80 yards for the final scoring play of the game.

With JV quarterbacks Seth Thompson (shoulder) and Brody Frain (elbow) sidelined, the freshman Fitzgerald stepped in and finished 9-of-18 passing for 125 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. Wagner finished with three catches for 87 yards.

The Panther rushing attack did not accumulate high yardage totals. Kolten Phelps ended up the leader with 27 yards on eight carries. Michael Stults led the defense with 12 tackles and Joe Eblen had a fumble recovery.

Special teams had some big moments in the game for the Panthers as Travontay Wright had a 70-yard kickoff return and Tyler Peters returned another 60 yards.

“Tonight our kids competed extremely well,” Creston/O-M coach Kevin Cooper said. “It was a very close game the whole night. We had some great chances to take the lead and were just unable to do so. We really like how our kids are playing hard for four quarters.”

The Panther JV travels to Harlan next Monday.

ADEL — Creston/O-M outgained ADM 205-186 in total yardage, but was hampered by four lost fumbles and an interception in falling to the Tigers Friday night, 28-7.

Bryce Fitzgerald carried for 94 yards and Kolten Phelps had 73 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers. Fitzgerald completed six passes for 60 yards. Tristan Travis and Kendall Crawford each had eight total tackles.

“We outplayed the Tigers in every aspect except one — turnovers,” said Creston/O-M coach Jon Thomson. “We can’t expect great things to happen when we put the ball on the ground six times and lose it four times on the wrong side of the field. We had great drives that would end in fumbles. The was the first game where we had some great push up front from our linemen. We were dominate in the middle between tackles on both sides of the ball. We just gave them the short end of the field.”
