ISU singers to perform at Warren Cultural Center

From barbershop to the Beach Boys, any song that calls for tight vocal harmony is the forte of Shy of a Dozen, the touring a cappella men’s ensemble from Iowa State University, that will perform 7 p.m. Oct. 24, at the Warren Cultural Center in Greenfield.

Affiliated with the Department of Music at ISU, the group’s repertoire consists of a wide variety of popular music, some written for a cappella groups and some that are its own arrangements of songs with traditional instrumentation. The select members of “ShyDo” are students at ISU. About half are music majors, and the other half represent a wide variety of programs of study.

Opening the evening of song will be the Nodaway Valley High School men’s chorus, directed by Jordan Leckband.

The show is presented as part of the Warren Cultural Center's Premier Performance Series, which brings top-flight national and Iowa-based talent to the stage of the restored Warren Opera House. Tickets are on sale now at Ed and Eva's store, 154 Public Square, Greenfield, by calling 641-743-2566 or visiting www.warrenculturalcenter.com. Special student ticket pricing is available. Shy of a Dozen was founded in 2000 by Dr. James Rodde, director of choral activities at ISU. Active since 2007 in its current form, “ShyDo” is composed of 11 male students, the only a cappella ensemble affiliated with the school’s music department. The group has given many performances at campus events and across the state. Samples of their music are available on YouTube.
