High Lakes Outdoor Alliance holds trap shoot

The High Lakes Outdoor Alliance shooting range was the site for the second annual Lc Open trap shoot Sept. 26. Competitors came from as far away as Des Moines and West Des Moines to participate in the event and from as nearby as Afton, Creston and Mount Ayr.

The event got underway with opening ceremonies at about 9:40 a.m. with a welcome and opening prayer. The raising and salute of the flag and a short address were held by Shoot for Life committee member Gordon Crawford, remembering the freedoms the flag represents, and the battle for those freedoms by men and women who have gone before us. A word of thanks and well wishes from local Lc Clinic location manager Hannah Shady rounded out the opening ceremonies.

Marc Roberg of the High Lakes Outdoor Alliance led the safety meeting, and the shooting competition began. A raffle of outdoor items was held between the first and second rounds of shooting competition. The culmination of the event was a tiebreaker shoot off between Russell Holmes and Wyatt Jackson. Trophies were awarded at the conclusion of the competition.

In class 1N Quentin Gregg placed first, with Ethan Mitchell and Brice Phelps following in second and third. Class 2E place winners were Mitchell Lutrick, Wyatt Jackson and Russell Holmes. Class 2N places went to Dakota Burgmaier, Thomas Steinbach and Jacob McCreary. Class 3N places went to Stacy Loy, Al Hysell and Mike Seddon and class 3E place winners were Pat Sheil, Harold Starlin and Jed McCreary.

The Shoot for Life committee has plans for making this event, which is open to boys and girls, men and women from ages 12 and up, a yearly activity on the weekend following Balloon Days.
