Robert W. Homewood, 88, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at the United Methodist Church, 333 Brower St., in Rockwell City. The Rev. Anita Bane will officiate. Military flag presentation will be conducted by the Rockwell City Veterans Organization. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church until service time. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Cass Township Cemetery in Strawberry Point.

Robert Wesley Homewood, son of Leslie and Donna (Marshall) Homewood, was born June 24, 1927, in rural Littleport. Robert attended school in Edgewood. In 1945, he served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.

On June 10, 1949, he married Mardell Kuehl at Elkport. The couple lived in Strawberry Point, moving to Dyersville in 1960, and then to Rockwell City in 1968. Robert worked for the General Telephone Co. for 31 years until his retirement in 1980. From 1981 to 1991, Robert worked as an independent telephone contractor. Mardell passed away in 1992. In 2013, Robert became a resident of Homestead Assisted Living in Creston, and then in February 2015, he moved to Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rockwell City, American Legion, and a past member of Rockwell City Lions Club.

Robert is survived by his sons, Marvin Homewood of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Richard (Vicki) Homewood of Creston and Delbert Homewood of Leander, Texas; grandchildren, Ashley Armstrong, Amber Armstrong, Alyssa (Steve) Leschisin and Elizabeth (Rob) Homewood Scott and great-granddaughter Lillynn Scott.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mardell, special friend Marcelyn Bowman, granddaughter Christina Homewood, parents and sister Ruth Zapf.
