MA splits

LIBERTY CENTER — Mount Ayr split its matches here Tuesday at the Southeast Warren Triangular, losing in straight sets to host Southeast Warren and sweeping Ankeny Christian Academy.

The Raiderettes fell to Southeast Warren 21-18, 21-18 before knocking off Ankeny Christian Academy 25-10, 25-13.

In the loss to Southeast Warren, Tessa Shields finished with five kills and two total blocks. Kelcie Shields recorded three kills and served 12-of-13 with two aces. Kirsten Dolecheck added three kills. Macy Larsen served 6-7 with four aces.

Blair Glendenning and Alyssa Johnson each recorded 10 digs, while Sadie Frost added eight and Larsen finished with seven. Johnson set seven assists and Larsen finished with four.

Tessa Shields led the Raiderettes at the net again in the win over Ankeny Christian Academy, finishing with four kills. She served 8-10 with four aces. Kelcie Shields recorded three kills with four total blocks.

Glendenning had a team-high 10 digs and served 13-15 with six aces. Johnson set seven assists and served three aces on 6-7 serving. Larsen finished with four assists and served 7-7. Dolecheck smacked three kills.

“We just did not show up to play volleyball tonight,” Mount Ayr head coach Tori Braby said. “Disappointing effort by the Raiderettes. We struggled all around. Can’t put a finger on a certain thing, just struggled. We have to bounce back and be ready for a conference matchup next Tuesday.”

The Raiderettes return to action next Tuesday at Southwest Valley.

East Union 3, Pleasantville 0

AFTON — East Union put together a strong match here Tuesday in a 25-14, 25-10, 25-15 sweep of Pleasantville.

“We played very well as a team tonight,” East Union head coach Gail Thatcher said. “Our defense in the back row with Reagan Brown, Katlin Weinkoetz, Mara Weis and Olivia Eckels passed the ball nicely up to our setter.”

Rylee Mitchell finished with 28 assists on the night. Brown led the team with 13 digs, while Weis added seven. Weinkoetz finished with five digs, as Eckels and Kali Mertens each recorded four.

Mertens was a force at the net for the Eagles, finishing with 16 kills on a perfect 24-of-24 on attacks. She also recorded five solo blocks and one block assist. McKayle Dudney added seven kills with one solo block and three block assists. Weis also had one solo block and three block assists.

Brown served 9-for-9 with four aces, while Mertens was 11-13 with three aces. Weinkoetz and Dudney each served two aces.

East Union returns to action Thursday at Wayne.
