Kathy Mayne

Des Moines

On the morning of Aug. 31, 2015, Kathy passed away after a 20-month battle with cancer surrounded by her family. Kathy was 56 years old.

Kathleen “Kak” Dawn Mayne was born in Madison, Wis., on April 22, 1959. She was the second daughter of Patricia Beverly and Edward John Wojtal.

Kathy graduated from Madison Memorial High School in 1977 and later attended Luther College in Decorah. On Oct. 22, 1988, she was united in marriage to Steve Kornelsen. The couple had two children, Ryan and Ali. Steve passed away on March 6, 1995 after his own battle with cancer.

On July 16, 2011, Kathy married her best friend, Jim Mayne, in West Des Moines surrounded by family and friends. What he’ll remember most about Kathy is her courage, her faith and her love for life.

Kathy was a wonderful, caring, steady wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend who never missed a birthday, a special event or a chance to say, “I love you.”

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband Steve Kornelsen, and her mother Patricia Wojtal.
