Wallace Foundation and ISU to host garden field day

Wallace Foundation and ISU will host a garden field day 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21. The featured theme for this year’s Armstrong Research Farm’s garden field day is “Gardens of North and South America.”

Food tastings will feature heirloom tomatoes, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, corn, beans and squash.  Homeowners looking for new and heirloom plants to try in their yards and gardens will have a nice variety of vegetables and flowers to view at the annual field day.

The 25th anniversary of the Wallace Foundation will be highlighted during the event.  Displays and memorabilia will be available for garden field day visitors to view.

Bernie Havlovic, superintendent at the Armstrong Farm since 1993, will be honored during the event as he prepares to retire on Oct. 2.

At the conclusion of the garden tour, homemade ice cream prepared and contributed by long-time Wallace Foundation board member, Kevin Barker from Lenox, will be served along with strawberries.

The Armstrong Research Farm is located 12 miles southwest of Atlantic on Highway 6, half a mile south on 525th Street, and a half mile east on Hitchcock Avenue, or 13 miles east of Oakland on Highway 6, half a mile south on 525th Street, and half a mile east on Hitchcock Avenue. The field day is open to the public at no cost.
