Ruth Lyons

Ruth Lyons, 70, of Creston died Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. The Rev. Jonathan Watt will officiate. Family will receive friends noon to 1 p.m. before the service, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com.

Ruth Ann Lyons, daughter of Edward Zook Dart and Hilda Weber Dart, was born June 29, 1945, in Lancaster, Pa. She graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, Pa.

Ruth married Mike Lyons. They divorced after a brief time together. Ruth worked for 35 years at the Spring Air Mattress Factory in Denver, Colo.

On July 11, 1997, Ruth married Ray Hilderbrand in Denver, Colo. They moved to Creston in 2008. Ruth worked as a newspaper carrier for the Creston News Advertiser and had managed a large multi-county rural route for the Omaha World Herald for the past 8 years.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Ray Hilderbrand of Creston; daughter, Melissa (husband Jerry) Chapman of Creston; sons, Douglas (wife Brenda) Dart of Lancaster, Pa., and Johnny Pitch, Jr.; grandchildren, Marlana Reed of Carrollton, Mo., Dakota Dart of Lancaster, Pa., and Jessie and Conner Chapman, both of Creston; great-grandchildren, Harley, Bryson and Jaydin Lawrence, all of Creston; and many friends who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Bryan Pitch and grandson Reno Dart.
