The Creston News Advertiser and the Osceola Sentinel-Tribune announce Central Decatur's Trenton Wells as a finalist for the 2015 South Central Iowa Male Athlete of the Year award. The winner of the award will be announced Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Football
• Completed 100-of-216 (46.3 percent) passes for 1,638 yards with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Posted a quarterback rating of 121.2.
• Finished fifth in Class 1A with 1,859 rushing yards on 270 carries, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. Scored 27 rushing touchdowns with a long of 69 yards.
• Led Class 1A with 3,497 combined rushing and passing yards, ranking second in Class 1A with 41 combined rushing and passing touchdowns.
• Also caught three passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 28.3 yards per catch.
• Led Central Decatur with 91 total tackles, including 68 solo tackles. Recorded 17 solo tackles for loss and 10 solo sacks.
• Intercepted one pass on defense.
• Made 5-of-12 PAT attempts and had one touchback on 44 kickoffs.
• Averaged 39.7 yards per punt on 29 punts, with a long of 72 yards.
• Returned four kickoffs for 257 yards, averaging 64.3 yards per return, including two touchdowns with a long of 96 yards. Also returned one punt for 42 yards.
• Named the Class 1A District 8 offensive MVP and was named to the all-district first team both as a quarterback on offense and as a punter on the defense.
• Named to the Iowa Newspaper Association’s first-team all-state in Class 1A at the utility position, and earned first-team all-state honors from the Des Moines Register and the Sports Spotlight as a linebacker.
• Helped lead Central Decatur to the Class 1A state quarterfinals, before losing to eventual state champion Iowa City Regina.
• Selected to play in the 2015 Iowa Shrine Bowl.
Wrestling
• Finished his senior campaign with a 50-2 record, placing fifth in Class 1A at 182 pounds in the State Wrestling Tournament.
• Completed an undefeated regular season during his senior campaign, not losing until the state tournament.
• Won the Pride of Iowa Conference championship at 182 pounds.
• He was a two-time state qualifier, also qualifying as a junior.
• Posted a career record of 135-28. His 135 career wins ranks fifth on Central Decatur’s all-time list.
• Received the team’s Ironman Award three times in his career for never missing a practice.
Golf
• Averaged a score of 47.86 for 9-hole rounds in seven rounds, with a low score of 44.
• In three 18-hole rounds, averaged a score of 95.00, with a low round of 88.
• Averaged a score of 48.77 for 9-hole and 18-hole rounds combined, adjusted by course rating.
• Helped Central Decatur to a second-place finish in the Pride of Iowa Conference Tournament.
• Also earned three letters in track and field and one in baseball during his career, owning a Central Decatur school record in the 4x200 relay in track and field.
• Signed with Grand View University to continue his football career.
