The chase is on at Adams County Speedway

CORNING — An early week storm made it look as if racing would not take place at Adams County Speedway Saturday night. Heavy rain Tuesday night caused turns one and two of the track to be completely underwater Wednesday morning.

The water would fortunately clear up by Saturday morning, allowing the full festivities to take place as it was Stalker Chevrolet Night with kid’s race car rides as well as the annual King of The Hill for The Stalker Chevrolet B-Modifieds.

Points leaders

Fifteen-year-old Ryan Jenkins was able to bounce back from a couple of rough weeks and pick up his third win of the 2015 season Saturday Night in The Stalker Chevrolet B-Modifieds, in doing so, Jenkins put a slight dent in Jerod Weston’s points lead which now stands at just 24 points.

Andrew Clark and Dusti Carlisle would lead the field to green, but it would be Shawn Kralik who led the early laps of the race. Quickly jumping up from his fifth place starting position. Kralik had begun to put some distance on the field, but a caution with 10 to go would stack things back up. Jenkins would get a great restart and work his way past Kralik on the restart to regain the lead.

Kralik would spin out on the entrance of turn four while running third to bring out the second caution of the race. Jenkins would engage in a battle with Jerod Weston and Kody Havens for the lead before another caution involving David Schwartz and Dustin Sheppard would bring out yet another caution.

Jenkins would hit his marks on the restart and pull away from the field in the final laps to pick up his third win of the season. Havens beat Weston to the line for second. Josh Sink came home in fourth, Kralik rebounded from his mid race spin to finish in fifth place.

First win

For weeks David Nail, Jr. seemed ever so close to picking up his first career feature win, he did it on Saturday night in The Northland Oil Pro Streets feature. Nail started on the front row alongside Chad Helvie and led the race in its entirety. Nail dominated the field in a race that only saw one caution when Dillon Carlisle went around early in the race.

Championship contender Kevin Sharp had some early race troubles when his car went off the track on the entrance of turn two, Sharp was able to rebound and finish in sixth place.Chad Helvie also found the rough spot at the entrance of turn two, going off the track while running third with three to go.

Nail would avoid the rough parts of the track and hit his marks in dominating fashion en route to collecting his first career win. Points leader Brad Derry picked up his third consecutive runner up finish.

A.J. Miller picked up a season best third finish, Greg Miller finished in fourth and Joe Zadina’s two-race winning streak ended with a fifth place finish.

Back in hunt

“The Wild Child” Sterling Perkins threw himself right back into the thick of the championship hunt for The Coors Light Silver Bullet Late Models by picking up his second feature win of the season.

Perkins started on the front row and led the entirety of the race, but would be forced to battle with last week’s winner John Hampel as well as former I-80 Speedway Track Champion and Nebraska State Champion Jase Kaser in Kaser’s first appearance at Adams County Speedway.

Kaser and Perkins ran side by side for many laps but Perkins would pull away in the waning laps to collect his second win of the 2015 season. Kaser finished in second, followed by Hampel in third, Justin Zeitner in fourth and Paul Glendenning in fifth.

Dennis dominates

From running at I-80 on Friday night, to his wife welcoming their third child to winning Saturday night’s Poet BioRefining Modified feature in dominating fashion, it’s safe to say that Jesse Dennis had an eventful 24 hours. Dennis started Saturday’s feature on the front row alongside T.J Patterson, but quickly overpowered Patterson for the lead putting some distance on then second place car Brian Foote.

Foote was running solidly in second place until a gear broke forcing Foote to retire from the race, finishing in last place. The race would stay green through its entirety as Jesse Dennis would pace the field picking up his fourth feature win of the season. This one by a margin of over 15 seconds. Ben Wolverton picked up a career best second place finish followed by Jeff Wiggins in third, David Schwartz in fourth and TJ Patterson in fifth.

Redemption

Last week Jeremy Purdy was less than half a lap away from his third feature win when a controversial caution completely shook things up and led to a series of events that resulted in Purdy having a torn up racecar. Purdy redeemed himself on Saturday night by picking up the feature win in The Chat Mobility Hobby Stocks. Purdy started in third position behind the front row of Tim McCollum and Jerid Lund.

Purdy took the lead on lap one and never looked back, showing that his No. 4 Devoe Farms Hobby Stock was definitely tuned in for the final stretch of the season. Purdy dominated the race from start to finish to pick up his third win of the season.

Luke Ramsey brought home a second place finish. Matt McAtee finished in third, Jerid Lund brought home a personal best fourth place finish and points leader Andy Davison rounded out the top five.

King of Hill

Kody Havens kicked off The King of The Hill’s by winning The Stalker Chevrolet B-Modified King of The Hill tournament on Saturday night. The top eight in points standings coming into Saturday night were eligible for The King of The Hill.

The eight drivers randomly drew for their first round opponents. In the first round Shawn Kralik barely edged Ryan Jenkins at the line. Kody Havens defeated Josh Most. Craig Garner defeated Josh Sink and Jerod Weston defeated Bryce Allen.

In the semifinals Kody Havens advanced to the finals by besting Shawn Kralik and Craig Garner nudged Jerod Weston at the line to punch his ticket to the finals. Havens then controlled Garner for the two lap finale en route to becoming the 2015 Stalker Chevrolet B-Modified King of The Hill.
