2015 South Central Iowa Male Athlete of the Year finalist Caleb Lange

The Creston News Advertiser and the Osceola Sentinel-Tribune announce Lenox's Caleb Lange as a finalist for the 2015 South Central Iowa Male Athlete of the Year award. The winner of the award will be announced Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Lenox

Football

• Ranked second for the Tigers with 458 rushing yards on 93 carries, playing in just seven games before breaking his wrist. Played only six games at fullback, starting the year at receiver.

• Averaged 4.9 yards per carry and scored six rushing touchdowns.

• Caught seven passes for 49 yards.

• Ranked fifth for Lenox with 48.5 total tackles, including 28 solo tackles. Recorded four solo tackles for loss and two solo sacks.

• Finished the year with one interception and two fumble recoveries.

• Had five touchbacks in 25 kickoff attempts and averaged 36.6 yards per punt on 29 punts, with a long of 60.

• Named to the Iowa Newspaper Association’s third-team all-state in Eight-Man as a punter during his junior season.

Basketball

• Ranked fifth in the Pride of Iowa Conference, averaging 19.7 points per game in 15 games played after missing the first half of the season with a broken wrist suffered in football.

• Shot 66.3 percent from the field.

• Ranked fifth in the Pride of Iowa Conference with 174 total rebounds, finishing third in the conference with an average of 11.6 boards per game. Pulled down 60 offensive rebounds.

• Finished the year with 18 assists, 19 steals and three blocked shots.

• Finished his career with 1,228 points, ranking second in Lenox history, just 33 points shy of the school record. He owns five of the top 15 single-game scoring performances in school history.

• Ranks fourth in school history for career rebounds, less than 150 boards shy of first place despite missing half of his senior season.

• Ranks in the top 10 in school history for each of the following categories both for a career and a single season: points, rebounds, assists, 3-pointers, 30-point performances and 20-point performances.

• He started every game he played in during his high school career.

Golf

• Led Lenox with a 9-hole average score of 43.00 in six 9-hole rounds, with a best round of 41. Shot a round of 88 in his only 18-hole round.

• Posted an average score of 44.83 for 9-hole and 18-hole rounds combined adjusted by course rating.

• Finished in a four-way tie for 10th at the Pride of Iowa Conference Tournament with his round of 88, helping Lenox to a fifth-place finish.

Baseball

• Finished fourth for the Tigers with a .325 batting average. He slugged .416 and got on base at a .469 rate.

• Hit four doubles and one home run, driving in a team-leading 23 runs. Drew 20 walks, compared to just seven strikeouts. Finished the year a perfect 8-of-8 in stolen bases.

• Led the Pride of Iowa Conference with 82 1/3 innings pitched, sporting a 9-2 record on the mound.

• Struck out 95 batters and walked 53, with an ERA of 1.53. His 95 strikeouts ranked second in the POI. Opponents hit just .152 against him.

• Posted a fielding percentage of .943, committing just four errors in 70 chances.

• Named to the Pride of Iowa Conference’s first team as a pitcher for the second straight season.

• Named to the Iowa Newspaper Association’s third-team in Class 1A as a pitcher, after earning second-team honors as a junior.

• Will be attending Iowa State University, studying agriculture business.
