Larry “Red” Van Pelt — Indianola

A celebration of life visitation for Larry “Red” Van Pelt, 81, who passed away Friday, July 24, 2015 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 29 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends. Cremation has taken place with burial of cremains to be held at a later date in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Red was born April 13, 1934 in Perry, Iowa, to Ralph and Marie (Thornley) Van Pelt. He was a self-employed painter and was also employed 25 years by Simpson College. Red served his country in the United States Navy.

Survivors include his wife Sheery of Indianola; sons Tom (Mavis) Van Pelt of Afton, Kenny (Kathy) Van Pelt of Ames and Kelly (Kristie) Van Pelt of Polk City; step-daughter Genia (Mike Pottorff) Rapp of Indianola; grandchildren Ryan, Megan, Brandon and Katelyn Van Pelt, Zach and Chris Rapp; and great-grandchild, Izik Rapp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Marie (Thornley) Van Pelt.
