Iowa Workforce Development selects Courtney Maxwell Greene as communications director

DES MOINES — Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) announced July 6 that Courtney Maxwell Greene has been hired as communications director for the state agency that supports Iowans in employment services, education and regulation of health, safety and employment laws.

“IWD is working hard with our business, education, and community partners to find and prepare workers to meet an ever increasing need for skilled employees within the state of Iowa,” said IWD Director Beth Townsend. “In addition, new initiatives will require strategic and targeted communications and Courtney Maxwell Greene emerged as a communicator with the experience, skill-set and vision to move our communication efforts forward.”

Maxwell Greene spent 15 years as a television news anchor, reporter and producer in Des Moines and Kansas City. She has state government experience working as a former press secretary to the governor and public information bureau chief for the Iowa Department of Public Safety. She also has experience in the private sector, having worked for Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield as public relations manager. Maxwell Greene’s background also includes working in education, as vice president for enrollment and communications at AIB College of Business, where she oversaw admissions, marketing and public relations.

"As the economy continues to improve, I embrace the opportunity to share success stories of hard-working Iowans. Many workers stay in the workforce beyond age 65, and as younger people enter the workforce, it is important to utilize technology to help all generations of working Iowans access the tools and resources they need to be successful," said Maxwell Greene.
Maxwell Greene is active in the community, where she is a member of the 50-50 in 2020 Advisory Council, and serves on the Metro YMCA and the Iowa Public Television Broadcasting Boards. She lives in West Des Moines with her two daughters.
