It’s Union County Fair Time - Join us!

From Barb Wilmeth, president, Union County Friends of 4-H

Creston

The Union County Fair is coming up July 18-23 in Afton. We invite everyone to the fair to share in the 4-H club members' pride and excitement as they showcase what they've learned and accomplished through another year of hard work. Once again, a big fair is expected with plenty to see and do. The barns will be filled with cattle, hogs, sheep, goats, horses and small animals, plus you're sure to see interesting and unusual projects in the exhibit building. You'll find a full schedule of all the fun at the Union County Fair website, http://www.ucfair.com/. Please come enjoy the fair and help support the efforts of our community's young people.

Besides all the youth activities and special events, food is another reason to attend the fair! Have lunch, dinner or an evening snack of fair food from the Snack Shack. Or, buy a delicious homemade pie at the Friends of 4-H Pie Auction during Saturday’s queen crowning; daily livestock shows and Thursday’s Livestock Auction. All of the pie auction proceeds support the Union County 4-H Club program and its members, including Clover Kids activities, 4-H supplies, trips and camps, project and leadership awards as well as help provide up to $1,500 in college scholarships for deserving 4-H members. All of the money stays here in Union County to support our 4-H’ers. If you can’t make it to the fair but would like to buy a pie, just give Sara Bolinger a call at 641-782-2125.

Finally, thank you to all who make 4-H and the Union County Fair possible. Without the community working hard and working together, this valuable youth program and the many learning experiences and fun times wouldn’t be possible.

See you at the fair!
