Southern Iowans place in National Junior High Finals Rodeo

DES MOINES — Shown below are southern Iowa members or area connections of Team Iowa participants in the 11th annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo held June 21-27 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

Featuring close to 1,000 contestants from 42 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, the NJHFR is the world’s largest junior rodeo event. Riders compete for more than $75,000 in prizes and a shot at more than $100,000 in college scholarships.

Each contestant was in two of the 12 go-rounds, with the top 20 in the average after these qualifying for the short go. Final standings were based upon the average of the three goes each finalist had.

Emily Dooley of St. Charles placed 16th in pole bending average. Jhett Williams of Winterset teamed with Brie Wells of Le Mars to place 15th in team roping average.
