Creston freshmen 0-2 at Clarke Tournament

OSCEOLA — The Creston freshman softball team went 0-2 here Monday at the Clarke Freshman Tournament.

The Panthers dropped their first game of the day to the host Lady Indians, 8-1.

Taylor Buxton took the loss, giving up eight runs on 11 hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Mary Ott drove in the lone run for the Panthers, scoring Taylor McDonald. McDonald finished the game 1-for-2. Kalan Bloodgood was 1-1 in the game and Saige Rice finished 1-2. Maura Kinsella drew a pair of walks in the game.

“We faced good pitching and we were not being aggressive enough to compete,” Creston freshman coach Carla Smith said. “We have to score more than one run against good ballclubs, and we just are not doing that right now.”

The Panthers lost their second game of the day to Albia, 13-2.

Brielle Baker took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits in two innings with one strike out.

Baker was 2-2 at the plate, while Laura Weis finished 1-2. Ott and McDonald each went 1-1.

“Our pitching has to be more consistent with good hitting teams,” Smith said.

The Panther freshmen play at home on Thursday with a doubleheader against Clarinda. Games begin at 10 a.m.
