It's back: Creston Pizza Hut to reopen in July

It didn’t stay closed for long.

Early next month, the Creston Pizza Hut kitchen will again be churning out pies, pastas and wings under its iconic red roof at 200 E. Taylor St., with new ownership and a brand-new look.

Pizza Hut franchisees Joe and Jill Comes, who own the West Des Moines-based Comes Investments Inc., have purchased the building and plan to have it back in business July 7. The Comes run 13 Pizza Huts in Iowa and South Dakota and have recently acquired the Creston and Perry stores. Perry's Pizza Hut, which also closed in May, is currently undergoing renovations and is also planned to open in July.

Joe Comes said the remodeled Pizza Hut will have all-new seating and decor, a new, top-of-the line oven and a new buffet and salad bar.

“People will be wowed when they see that,” he said. “They will love our new buffet. It offers so much more than it did before.”

The store will offer a Sunday buffet and daytime delivery, with two new vehicles: a van for larger orders and a Mercedes smart car.

Comes said the restaurant will also be receiving a new roof and sign, but that project will likely not be finished by opening date due to crews fixing another store in Albia damaged by a tornado earlier this week.

Creston’s Pizza Hut originally closed May 19 after staying open nearly 45 years on Highway 34. Comes said he heard about the store’s closure through another franchisee and thought the area would be a perfect fit for the company.

“When I first drove in, I was wowed by what a nice, clean city it was,” he said. “There still looks to be plenty of industry. The population fit and works perfectly.”

Comes said a couple employees are returning from the previous store and are training at the Winterset location. He estimates the store will employ about 25 part-time and full-time employees, and applications are currently open for management, prep cooks, servers, phone order takers and delivery drivers. To apply, go online to pizzahut.com/careers. You can also email a resume to myhometownpizzahut@gmail.com or fax it to 515-330-1174.

Pizza Hut will also be holding an open house Tuesday of next week. It will not be open to the public, but potential employees can stop by for applications at 10 a.m.
