Kent Dinner Club

Kent Dinner Club met June 11 with 13 attending at The Pizza Ranch.

The next meeting will be 5:30 p.m. July 9 at The Pizza Ranch in Creston.

Iowa Alpha Sigma Master

Iowa Alpha Sigma Master chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met June 11 with Loretta Kelly as hostess. New officers were in charge. Cheryl McClure presided at the business meeting. Members answered roll call by telling if they had spring and summer flowers planted.

Program Chairman Kelly distributed new program books. A birthday card was signed for former member Norma Walker. Service Chairman Marilyn Larimore discussed possible service projects for the coming year. She also read from the Book of Beta Sigma Phi regarding organization rituals.

Dorothy Eyberg gave the program on weather folklore. She told of old sayings regarding the weather and explained that some have scientific explanations. Members shared some of their favorite weather lore.

Larimore will host the June 25 meeting.

GRMC Auxiliary

The Greater Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Board held their regular monthly meeting June 8 in the MAP conference room. The meeting began at 10:03 a.m. with eight members present. Volunteer Director Chelsey Dailey is still on maternity leave. Jessica Duncan filled in as assisting volunteer director. Nancy Hawks conducted the meeting.

Meeting agenda was reviewed and approved by Lois Daub and Tammy Reeves. There was not an auxiliary meeting in May. Minutes reflected that no meeting was held in May 2015.

Matt McCutchan gave the administrative report. He highlighted the upcoming replacement of existing CPSI software to EPIC. GRMC will license through Unity Point as a rural affiliate to achieve a substantial cost savings. Go live date will be the last week of June.

General funds and gift shop funds balance sheets were reviewed and approved.

Fundraising: Duncan reported on the recent fundraising golf event. She stated it was a success. Final auxiliary profit was not available at this time. The gift shop will be hosting a fundraising bake sale/crazy day sale July 2 beginning at 10 a.m. in the gift shop. Members of the auxiliary/gift shop are asked to bring between two and four dozen wrapped items to be sold July 2. Setup for the event will be 3 p.m. July 1. On Oct. 6, GRMC will host a book sale in the atrium.

The meeting schedule and the by-laws review discussion was tabled until volunteer services director returns.

No new volunteers reported.

No auxiliary meeting will be held in July. The next auxiliary meeting will be 10 a.m. Aug. 10 in the MAP conference room.

Creston Lions Club

Creston Lions met June 2 at Cromwell Congregational Church with 16 members and eight guests present. President Ron Dunphy opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m. leading in the Pledge of Allegiance. Delmer Brown gave the invocation. The meal was prepared and served by members of the Cromwell Church.

The business meeting was opened with the May 5 minutes being presented and approved. District Governor Pat Parker of Panora presided over the installation of Creston Lions Club officers for 2015-16. Alice Brown will serve as tail twister; members of the Board of Directors are Mark Zellmer, Al Pokorny, Larry Hicks and out-going president Ron Dunphy; Tom Braymen is treasurer; Randy Ringsdorf will serve as first vice president; and Susan Weight is the new president. Parker charged the membership to be supportive of the new officers.

Parker presented Carol Harrison and Stew Stewart each a Medallion for Excellence from the District Governor’s Team. Dunphy and Weight read thank you notes from Gibson Memorial Library and Iowa Lions for participation in the KidSight vision screening program and the Diabetes Awareness program.

Ralph Dillinger requested assistance from the membership for the Fourth of July bingo stand to be held at McKinley Park. The next regular meeting will be July 7.

TOPS 1338

Ten members of TOPS IA 1338 met at 5:30 p.m. June 8. Best loser for the week was Carol Sheldahl and second was Mitzi Cellan. The club recorded a net loss of 3.75 pounds.

Alice Brown gave the treasury report. The June 1 fines wen to the treasury.

Squares was won by Sheldahl and fines went to the treasury. The Red Can Challenge was to eliminate sugared drinks and whole milk and cream.

Bylaws were reviewed and changes made.

TOPS 1338 Creston meets Mondays after a 5 p.m. weigh-in at the Methodist Church at the corner of North Elm and Howard streets. Anyone may visit a meeting to determine if TOPS would be beneficial to their desire to improve their well-being.

On Monday, TOPS 1338 was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Diana Loomis. Nine members answered roll call and recorded a 4.75 pound net loss. Bev Lyon was best loser and Alice Brown was second. The minutes were read and approved.

Alice Brown gave the treasurer’s report.

Squares went to Brown. Fines from June 8 went to the treasury. The Red Can Challenge was to reduce carb intake and increase green vegetable consumption daily.

Lyon presented the program. She shared “Four Weeks to a Better Heart.” The four suggestions covered food, sleep, exercise and laughter.

Sandy Oswald will give the program June 22.

Kiwanis

The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at The Windrow with 20 members. President Jane Lowe presided, and Victoria Brammer did the prayer. Bob Miller was the finemaster.

The program was Victoria Brammer, co-chairperson of Dog Gone Rescue. She discussed the current animals they have and the hundreds they have already had get adopted to loving homes. They will also be holding a fundraiser in August to remind people not to leave pets in hot cars over the summer.
