SWCC sports shooting recognized at U.S. Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Southwestern Community College’s sports shooting program was recognized for its outstanding season by Iowa Congressman David Young in the United States Congress here on May 14.

Young recognized and congratulated the team for winning the Iowa Collegiate Sports Shooting Conference Championship. He congratulated Brandon Dvorsky, freshman from Solon, and Shelby Woods, freshman from Madison, Mo., for their individual titles in the men’s and women’s divisions respectively. He also mentioned the team’s sixth-place finish at the Association of College Unions International Collegiate Clay Target Championships in San Antonio, Texas in March.

In the Congressional Record document, which was mailed to SWCC head sports shooting coach Charlie Mundy, Young said “the example set by these students and coaches demonstrates that hard work, dedication, and perseverance deliver results.”

The SWCC Spartans have fielded a sports shooting team since the fall of 2013. The Spartan team travels to shooting events, competing against teams from across the Midwest and the country. The team is open to men and women. The college’s sports shooting team holds practices at the High Lakes Outdoor Alliance in Afton.
