ouple who sent cow manure to neighbors file lawsuit

BURLINGTON (AP) — Iowa courts are now being asked to clean up a messy neighborhood dispute over a dog that included one couple sending a quart of cow manure in the mail to another couple.

The Hawk Eye reports that Kimberly and Carlos Capdevila filed a lawsuit claiming that Mary Eipert and Steven Rowland are defaming them and interfering with their insurance business.

The Capdevila’s lawsuit is a response to a lawsuit Eipert and Rowland filed earlier this year asking a judge to order the Capdevilas to silence their barking dog and stop harassing them.

The Burlington couples have been sparring at least since 2010.

Kimberly Capdevila has said she paid a website to send the manure in December as a practical joke. She faces a misdemeanor charge of third-degree harassment, and that case is still pending in court. If convicted, she could face up to 30 days in jail and a $625 fine.

Rowland said he initially mistook the manure for a 3-pound package of sprouted flour he had ordered, but he didn’t realize it until he opened it.

In the lawsuits, both couples are seeking monetary damages.
