NV’s Lamb advances to state golf

ANITA — Nodaway Valley’s best score of the season wasn’t enough to get to state as the Wolverines shot 325 for fourth place at the Class 1A boys district meet Friday at Crestwood Hills.

However, Jackson Lamb of the Wolverines advanced to state with a runner-up finish of 3-over par 74. He will compete in the 1A state tournament Friday and Saturday at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.

“That was with a triple bogey on his ninth hole, otherwise he shot par for the course,” said Nodaway Valley coach Steve Shantz. “He won the first playoff hole vs. Ben Clement of Earlham for the runner-up spot.”

Lamb had a good second shot and missed on his birdie putt attempt in the playoff, but got par and Clement missed his par putt.

There were six teams in the district within 13 strokes of each other Friday. Earlham won the district title with a 314, while Griswold heads back to state with a 317 in second place. Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto was third with a 320, five strokes ahead of Nodaway Valley.

Mount Ayr was ninth at 363. Raider leaders were Jake Ricker with an 85 and Connor Giles at 89.

Wes Davis of Nodaway Valley was just out of the top 10, tying for 11th at 39-40 — 79.

“We are very proud of what we accomplished this year, and our seniors Colton Garside and Casey Ladd have done a great job for us,” Shantz said. “We knew this was going to be tough and we gave it our best shot. It was a successful year with our third straight POI championship and qualifying for the district meet.”
