Creighton University

OMAHA, Neb. — More than 1,700 degrees were conferred during Creighton University’s commencement ceremonies May 16 at CenturyLink Omaha.

The following students are graduates from the Creston News Advertiser area:

Afton – Alexander Wuebker, Bachelor of Science in business administration.

Creston – Brian Gutmann, Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Iowa State University

AMES — Iowa State University announced the continuing students who will receive scholarships from the College of Human Sciences for the 2015-16 academic year.

Megan Doubleday of Mount Ayr will receive the Maxine and Dennis Brown Scholarship. Doubleday is a senior studying elementary education.

Ciara McCarty of Prescott will receive the Merit Scholarship. McCarty is a senior studying kinesiology and health.

Joseph Webb of Murray will receive the Majorie Chollett Scholarship and Bernice Strawn Scholarship. Webb is a senior studying nutritional science.

Buena Vista University

STORM LAKE — Buena Vista University’s (BVU) 11th annual Scholars Day was held April 24. The event provided students from all disciplines an opportunity to present their best presentations, original research, academic posters, artistic creations and performances to their peers, professors and the public.

This year’s Scholars Day event featured 43 presentations from 86 students, exploring topics from art and business to science and history.

Rebecca Pennington, a senior biology major from Mount Ayr, was one of the students who participated. Pennington’s presentation was titled “Does GABA play a role in establishing appetite?”

Upper Iowa University

FAYETTE — Upper Iowa University recently held its 30th annual Scholarships and Awards Recognition Banquet and awarded 129 scholarships to students across the University. Recipients were selected by the UIU Honors and Awards Committee and the University academic divisions.

Jeanne Sprague of Creston was awarded the RN-BSN Outstanding Student Award. This plaque is given to students with outstanding achievement in the nursing major. This award was established to recognize RN-BSN students who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership; along with professionalism, integrity and dedication to the nursing profession.

Graceland University

LAMONI — The honor roll lists for Graceland University’s 2015 spring term have been announced.

Students with a perfect 4.0 grade point average are named to the president’s list.
