Valley 2, Ballard 1

HUXLEY — The Nodaway Valley/West Central Valley/Adair-Casey girls made all four penalty kick attempts in a tiebreaker shootout while Ballard made two, lifting the Valley girls to a road victory Tuesday night.

Hailey Gross scored at the 16:19 mark of the first half to give Valley a 1-0 lead. Ballard, coached by former Valley player and assistant coach Hailey Groves, tied the match on a Nicole Watters shot off a corner kick with 38:16 left in the second half.

Neither team scored after during the rest of regulation and two overtime periods, before Valley won the PK shootout, 4-2.

“We started strong in the beginning of the game,” said Valley coach Michael Krawczyk. “Ballard did a good job of marking our forward. Both teams had other chances of scoring. We stayed tied and went into PKs, where we did a great job of making our shots. Proud of the girls for never giving up to get the win.”
