Dorcas Jane Barger, 93, of Creston, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Crest Haven Care Center, Creston, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 15, 2015 at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 West Montgomery St. Creston, IA. Pastor Matthew Novotny will officiate. Interment at Graceland Cemetery, Creston, IA. Open visitation from 1:00 -8:00 P.M. Thursday, May 14, 2015. Family will receive friends from 6:00- 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Dorcas Jane Barger, the daughter of Lawrence Dudley and Hazel Dell (Winger) Deacon, was born on September 27, 1921 in Red Oak, Iowa. Dorcas graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1939. Dorcas married Kenneth Barger on July 18, 1950 in Raton, New Mexico. Dorcas and Kenneth resided in Pueblo, CO for 30 years where she was a floral designer for 18 years. She also worked for Sears for a short time. Dorcas moved back to Creston where she lived for 35 years.

Dorcas was a member of the American Legion Post #2 Auxiliary in Pueblo, CO and American Legion Post #96 Auxiliary in Lorimor, IA. She traveled the United States with the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years. Dorcas was also a member of the Eagles Lodge #1398 in Creston, IA. Dorcas loved fishing, hunting, sewing and quilting. She also loved to tend her flower and vegetable garden.

Left to cherish Dorcas’s memory is her son-in-law: Eugene (Michael Ann) Spradlin, Valparaiso, IN. Dorcas is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Dorcas in death were her parents; her husband in 2009; daughter: Vicki Spradlin; two brothers: Robert Deacon and Jack Deacon; and four sisters: Minnie Claiser; Maudie Hansen; Theo Seddon; and Patsy White.
