Edith Irene Larkin, the daughter of Aaron H. and Asia (Hite) Smith was born March 28, 1912, in Red Oak, Iowa, the 5th of 12 children. She passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015 at her home in Carson, Iowa at the age of 103 years, 1 month and 10 days.

Edith was united in marriage to Clarence Larkin on March 5, 1931 and to this union, 2 children were born, Eloise and Clarence Jr. “Sonny.” She worked for several different people when she was young. After she married, she worked for Murphy Calendar Company for over 15 years. Later she worked for the Eveready Battery Company until she retired, dedicating over 25 years. Following the passing of her husband, Clarence and having made Red Oak her home for 90 years, she moved to Creston, Iowa to live with her daughter, Eloise Larson. She and Eloise later moved to Arizona where they lived until Eloise’s death in January of 2015. At this time, Edith moved to Carson, Iowa to live with her grandson, Scott Larson and his wife, Kathy. Edith was truly the matriarch of her family and will be truly missed.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence of 66 years on December 10, 1997, son, Clarence Jr. “Sonny” Larkin, daughter, Eloise Larson, son-in-law Harold Larson, granddaughter Stephanie Leonard, 5 sisters: Margaret, Lenore, Darlene, Hope and Garnet; 4 brothers: Willard, Ivan, Amber and Emory.

Edith is survived by a brother, Ernest “Ernie” Smith of Red Oak, IA; sister, Ramona Manchester of Madrid, IA; daughter-in-law, Letty Larkin of Mesa, AZ; 6 grandchildren: Scott Larson and wife Kathy of Carson, IA; Kristy Lapcheske and husband Kevin of Peoria, AZ; Eric “Ric” Larson and wife Mary of Mesa, AZ; Cynthia Stenseth and husband Brian of Surprise, AZ; Lorelei “Lori” Cooper and husband Don of Pahrump, NV; and Alan Larkin and wife Samantha of Booneville, MO; 12 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak.

Burial in the Evergreen Cemetery.
