GREENFIELD — Nodaway Valley ended Interstate 35’s string of back-to-back Pride of Iowa Conference girls track championships here Monday, ending a drought of its own in the process.

The Wolverines won six events on their way to scoring 109 points, which bettered runner-up Mount Ayr’s 91 points.

It marked the first time in 10 years the Wolverines have won the POI girls track championship.

Wayne finished third with 88 points, while Lenox was fourth with 62 points. East Union finished seventh with 34 points and Southwest Valley recorded 33 points for eighth place.

Junior Destiny Scar’s big night in the distance events was a key to Nodaway Valley’s championship.

Scar won both the 3,000 meters and the 1,500 meters and finished second in the 800 meters.

Scar ran 11:32.65 in the 3,000 meters and 5:22.16 in the 1,500 meters.

Kenna Lundy won Nodaway Valley’s other individual gold medal with a dominant performance in the 400 meter hurdles. Lundy ran 1:11.10 to best runner-up Elizabeth Herzberg of Southwest Valley by more than four seconds.

Lundy and Scar each ran on Nodaway Valley’s winning 4x400 relay team that also included Rachel Scheel and Katy Ehrsam.

Nodaway Valley also won the 4x200 relay with the quartet of Scheel, McElfish, Sadie Marnin and Hohertz. That relay team ran 1:56.09.

Mount Ayr picked up four event victories on the night, sweeping the throwing events. Senior Katie Holmes won the discus with a throw of 97-1, as Southwest Valley’s Shanna Saunders finished second at 89-6.

Raiderette freshman Sara Winemiller won the shot put with her throw of 32-2.

Senior Ashton Johnson won the 100 meter hurdles for the Raiderettes, breaking the tape in 16.65, with Alyssa Johnson running 16.75 in second place for Mount Ayr, just nipping Ehrsam (16.76) at the line.
