Shenandoah sweeps tennis duals

Shenandoah swept Creston/O-M teams in Hawkeye 10 tennis duals Thursday.

Creston/O-M No. 1 and No. 2 singles players Jenna Taylor and Alli Thomsen won for the Panthers in action at Southwestern courts, and teamed up for a doubles victory to improve to 5-0 as a unit for the season.

But Shenandoah won every other match in a 6-3 victory. The Panthers fell to 4-2 in dual meets.

“We faced a tough opponent tonight,” said Creston/O-M assistant coach Amanda Plymale. “Jenna Taylor and Alli Thomsen are playing consistently and aggressively every match, whether it’s singles or doubles. Shenandoah brought a large team, which gave all of our JV players two matches. Our JV is getting a lot of experience this year and improving every day.”

At Shenandoah, two Panther doubles teams picked up victories in a 7-2 Shenandoah dual win. Creston/O-M fell to 2-3 for the season.

Jacob Cook and Jaden Driskell won 10-8 at No. 2 doubles, and Sam Eagan teamed with Seth Maitlen for a 19-7 triumph at No. 3 doubles. Driskell nearly picked up the Panthers’ only singles win before falling 11-9 to Alex Goodell at No. 4.

“As a team tonight things did not go the way we wanted them to,” Creston/O-M coach Kevin Cooper said. “Credit goes to Shenandoah. They are a quality team and undefeated in the Hawkeye 10. We were unable to get those close matches to go our way and make the meet closer. I feel like we are getting better, and it is a great experience for us to play quality teams along the way.”

The Panther boys travel to Osceola Clarke today, while the girls will play in the Knoxville Tournament that was rained out last week.
