LAMONI — The Southwest Valley girls placed sixth out of 11 teams here Saturday at the Bruce Jenner Invitational with 36 points, while Murray finished ninth with 12 points.
On the boys side, Southwest Valley was tied for third with 70 points, Central Decatur finished sixth with 39 points, and Murray finished tied for 10th with 12 points in the 11-team field.
Elizabeth Herzberg of Southwest Valley was third in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.29.
The Timberwolves were third in three girls relays — the 4x200 in 2:05.42, the distance medley in 5:15.32 and the 4x400 in 4:55.79.
For Murray, freshman Kylie Shields finished runner-up in the 3,000 meters with her time of 13:12.06. She also placed sixth in the 1,500 meters, running 5:55.94.
Boys
Colten Drake had two field event wins for Southwest Valley, taking the shot put at 41-08 and the high jump at 6-0. Teammate Scott Vanderhoof was third at 5-8.
Tony Klocke also had a victory for the Timberwolves in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.19.
Southwest Valley also took third place in two relays — the 4x800 in 9:36.56 and the 4x400 in 3:57.63.
“I was very pleased with how well the guys started out their season,” Southwest Valley head boys coach Allen Naugle said. “Our strengths this year are going to be in the field events and the hurdle events, and that definitely showed on Saturday.”
For Murray, Matt Rockhold finished sixth in the 400 meter dash to lead the way. Rockhold ran 1:00.07.
