CORNING — With April approaching, so does the start of the 2015 season at Adams County Speedway.

Race cars, crews, and fans alike all prepare for another year of action at the half-mile dirt track. Five gladiators return to ACS to defend their titles this season, as packs of athletes are all quick on their heels to take their place. Nothing is for certain yet, other than dirt will fly, engines will rumble the ground beneath them, and roars from the grandstands will be heard throughout the Saturday nights ahead until the champions are crowned.

Jeremy Purdy driver of the #4 Chat Mobility Hobby Stock prepares to take the field as defending champ at ACS.

Jeremy Purdy

D.O.B.: Jan. 29, 1979.

Hometown: Bedford.

What got you racing: I started racing cruiser cars at Stuart International Speedway right out of high school.

What are you looking forward to in 2015: Looking to have fun and win some races!

What is most exciting about driving your car: The competition in the hobby stock class is like restrictor plate racing, always door-to-door fun!

Who helps you with your season (crew, sponsors, family): Brad Larson is my crew chief. He puts a lot of time in the shop when I'm chasing kids!

Sponsors are The Rew Crew, my uncle Jack and family sponsors my motors. Supreme Cleaners of Creston, for all your dry cleaning needs, see them. Jersey Construction and the Ladoga stud Jesse Beemer. Motor Inn in Bedford. Don’s Auto Body of Lenox. Calfee Welding and Fabrication. DeVoe Farms. Perfection Plus Auto Body of Bedford. Swartz Farms. Tom Demott Farms. Peterman Carpentry of Bedford. Nine Years Gone (James “Young Flanagan” Wilson — bass guitar, vocals; Clint “Big Mountain” Henry — percussion, cow bell, vocals; Jeff “Fro” Cummings — guitar, vocals). 3D Construction of Bedford. Jon Plowman driver of the #17 Stalker Chevrolet B-Mod in 2014 will chase a new title, as he runs the 2015 season in the #17 Poet Biorefining Modified.

Jon Plowman

Born: July 17, 1993.

Hometown: I grew up living in Woodbine.

What got you into racing: My father started racing circle track in 1994, so I pretty much grew up with dirt track racing being my dream.

What are you looking forward to in 2015: As far as challenges in the upcoming 2015 race season, I'll be looking forward to a new class, new car and new competition to race against in the Poet Biorefining modified division.

What is the most exciting about driving your car: I think the most exciting thing about driving is making it three-wide when there's really only room for two. Getting the fans on their feet is the most exciting to me.

Who helps you with your season (crew, sponsors, family): My sponsors are the best, that's the bottom line. Without them, I would not be racing. They are Tora "Two Oaks Red Angus" from Dunlap. Larry Shaw Race Cars from Batesville, Ark. Walker Service of Woodbine. E4 Sons of Woodbine. Miller Fuels of Portsmouth. Hypercoil Race Springs. Wehrs Machine. A&A Manufacturing. Pizza Ranch of Harlan and Denison. Thomsen Chiropractic of Woodbine. Taste of Texas BBQ of McCook, Neb. My father Tim Plowman, mother Mary Plowman, uncles Dave and Mark Plowman, cousins Levi and Jake Neal, and, of course, my girlfriend Jackie Powers. Without her my race season would not be complete.

Jesse Dennis driver of the #70 Poet Biorefining Modified will try to keep his crown as a field of drivers try to take it home with them this season.

Jesse Dennis

D.O.B.: Aug. 26, 1985

Hometown: Corning.

What got you racing: Going to Adams County Speedway when I was growing up. Dad got me into a go-cart, then we stepped into the world of Modified racing at ACS. I appreciate all the support from fans at ACS and that is what keeps us coming back.

What are you looking forward to in 2015: I hope to have half as good of a season as we did last year. We're sure going to try to make a run at another championship with our Poet Biorefining Modified.

What is most exciting about driving your car: The open wheel part of racing a modified with small tires and the speed. I enjoy the door-to-door racing. It gets the blood moving when you are rubbing tires with another car. There is good competition in every class at ACS, but modifieds have some of the toughest drivers with high grades of driving skills.

Who helps you with your season (crew, sponsors, family): Frank's Auto Body in Corning. R&S Auto Sales in Corning. Perrin Custom Haying. Johannes Farms. Schrader Farms. Lucky Dog Racing. Fehrle Farms. Liberty Safes. Fehrle Safe. Starlin Construction. BASF Automotive Refinish. Prescott Outpost. Petersen Tire. Midstate Machine. Skyrocket. One of the biggest reasons I race is my family. My wife Megan, Jayden and Bristol, and my mom and dad.

Crew: Joey Shires, James Johannes, and Jordan Perrin.
