Hair for the ages

Mindy Eblen of Fontanelle opened her salon March 10 on the west side of the Greenfield square.

GREENFIELD — It’s a head-banging place at Hairbandz in Greenfield. Mindy Eblen, 42, of Fontanelle, opened the doors to her salon March 10.

The salon, located on the west side of the Greenfield square at 304 Public Square, is reminiscent of 80s rock bands like Bon Jovi, Warrant and Def Leppard.

Eblen, owner and operator of the salon, said she designed the salon when she was in hair school in Georgia.

“I did design this in hair school,” Eblen said. “Then the opportunity just came up, so I just decided to go my own way and get my own shop.”

Eblen worked at The Final Cut in Greenfield for four-and-a-half years before deciding to open her own salon.

The space became available two weeks before Eblen opened, allowing her a short amount of time to paint, decorate and install equipment. With the help of her coworkers and family, Eblen finished the setup during the week she opened.

“I’m an 80s hair band kind of girl,” Eblen said. “That was my vision, I guess, for what I wanted it to look like. I wanted it to be fun and cool.”

Eblen and her coworkers Kathy Christensen, stylist and massage therapist, and Dillon Porter, tattoo artist, offer a variety of services, including hair cuts, colors, perms, nails, waxing, spray tans, massages and tattoos.

“I’m very excited, of course,” Eblen said. “It’s been a very hectic schedule.”

During setup of Hairbandz, Eblen said she would go to work, then go immediately to the salon.

“I’d be here till nine or ten o’clock every night since I started this, just trying to get this all ready,” Eblen said. “We’ve been pretty busy, and we had our customers stopping in to look.”

The slogan for the salon also fits into Eblen’s rock ‘n’ roll visions: “Hairbandz Salon, for rockin’ hair and nails.”

Hairbandz is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, with after-hours appointments available. Redken, Kenra, Paul Mitchell and Matrix hair products are available for purchase. Prices are comparable to the area.
