LG P.E.O.

Chapter LG P.E.O. met Jan. 20 at the home of Amy Stults with Lynn Baker serving as co-hostess. Sixteen members responded to roll call.

Carolyn Downing presented the program for Founder’s Day. The seven founders were students in Mount Pleasant when they formed the organization 146 years ago.

The yearbook is in process and changes in address or contact numbers need to be updated. There was discussion about P.E.O.’s annual omelet buffet to be held March 3. Chapter AZ will partner in this event, and LG will participate in their annual trunk sale in May.

The next regular meeting will be held Feb. 3 at the home of Lori Scott as hostess, with LeaAnn Schuler serving as co-hostess. The birthday luncheon will be Feb. 10 at Adams Street Espresso.

Creston UMW

The Executive Committee of Creston United Methodist Women met 10:30 a.m. Jan. 8. Co-President Susan Weight called the meeting to order with the UMW Purpose being read in unison. There were seven members present. Weight led devotions by reading scripture from Ephesians 4:32 and 5:2. She read an item from the January “Response” magazine titled “Think” and closed with a prayer from Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians.

There was a communication from Women at the Well. Minutes of the December meeting were reviewed, and the treasurer’s report was given.

The vice president reported the yearbooks were complete. There were no other reports.

Installation of the UMW officers was held at the 10:30 a.m. service on Jan. 18. Mission Recognition pins were awarded at this service also.

Morning Circle met 9:30 a.m. Jan. 15 at the church. Judy Kading was hostess and presided at the business meeting. There were 10 members present. Beth Perry gave the devotions and gave the lesson, which was the pledge service titled “Welcoming Through Giving.”

Evening Circle met 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at the church with 11 members present. Rosalie Denton presided at the business meeting. Plans were made for a funeral luncheon for the Cooper family after their daughters’ service on Jan. 31. There was a food sign-up sheet circulated for the upcoming UMW fundraising dinner Feb. 15.

Bobi Woodin shared an article from the “Response” magazine titled “Help for new Mom’s in Kentucky.”

Jerrie Henderson presented the lesson, which was the pledge service titled “Welcoming Through Giving.”

The next Executive meeting will be Feb. 5.

Circles meet on February 19, 2015.

Work day at Bidwell Riverside in Des Moines is May 27.

The invitational supper is April 9.

AZ PEO

P.E.O. Chapter AZ met Jan. 20 at the home of Nancy Loudon. Twenty-one members were present.

President Connie Purdum read a letter from Chapter OR to join with them in donating to Partner in Peace. The money will go toward scholarships for international women students to pursue graduate studies in the United States and Canada.

Plans for the joint omelet fundraiser with Chapter LG on March 3 were discussed. It will be at the Methodist Church. Proceeds will go toward local scholarships.

Officers were nominated for 2015-16. Installation will be March 17.

Sharon Booth announced the theme for the new yearbook is Nurturing and Inspiring Women.

Marilyn Ide gave a program about the founding sisters.

Hostesses Nancy Loudon and Sandy Stalker served refreshments.

Bancroft History Assembly

Bancroft History Assembly met Jan. 19 at Crest Plaza community room. Ten members and one life member were in attendance.

JoAnn Nurnberg, president, called the meeting to order. The theme for the day was “The perfect time to start something never arrives.” The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was recited. The inspirational thought was – “Never try to make anyone like you. You know and God knows that one of you is enough.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Roll call was answered by telling how you like to spend a snowy day. Minutes from the November meeting were read by Sandy Oswald and approved. Avis Hainline presented the treasurers’ report and were approved.

There were no correspondence or committee reports.

New business: The scholarship notices have been sent in. One hundred percent of members turned in reading reports. There were 514 books read. Federate reports have to be sent in by Sunday.

The next meeting will be Feb. 2 at GRMC.

Nurnberg asked the meeting be adjourned. Marisue Lewis made the motion with Joan Chubick seconding the motion. Motion carried.

Martha Musmaker gave a report on Ann Landers.

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met Wednesday.

Canasta winners were Dottie Dunphy, first; Barb Veitz, second; and Wanda Nash, third.

Maxine May won the door prize.

Veitz will be hostess for cards and chatter Wednesday, Feb. 4.
