Creston UMW

The Executive Committee of Creston United Methodist Women met 1 p.m. Dec. 4 in fellowship hall. Susan Weight, co-president, called the meeting to order with seven members in attendance.

Beth Perry conducted the devotions by reading selected verses from Psalms 37 and Matthew 11. She also read a devotional from the Upper Room and closed with a prayer.

Minutes of the November meeting were reviewed, and the treasurer’s report was given.

The program books for 2015 are being put together and are to be ready by mid month.

Reports were given for social action, membership and program resources. There were no committee reports and no old business.

For new business there is to be a report of all UMW activities for 2014 compiled for the pastor.

The December Bible Verse, Isaiah 60:1, was read in unison, and the meeting was adjourned.

The Unit meeting was held at 2 p.m. Susan Weight called this meeting to order by asking Bobi Wooden to read a Christmas prayer. Weight then introduced Sydney Fry, a Creston High School senior, who presented the program. She sang four Christmas pieces accompanying herself on the guitar.

Weight closed the program with a reading titled “Keeper of the Inn.”

Refreshments were then served from a Christmas decorated table prepared by the hostess, Morning Circle. Everyone enjoyed the refreshments while devotions and the business meeting was conducted by Weight.

Beth Perry presented the devotions by reading scripture from Isaiah 9:6. She then read a story about the Advent carol “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus” after which members sang the hymn. She closed with an Advent prayer from the hymnal.

Roll call was answered by eight Morning Circle members, six Evening Circle members and one guest.

Rosalie Denton read the minutes of the September 2014 Unit meeting after the treasurer’s report for November was given.

All of the previous information presented at Executive was presented to the Unit.

Morning Circle met Dec. 18 with Ellen Rinner as hostess, and Lois Jay as co-hostess. There were eight members and one guest present. Beth Perry presented the devotions. Rev. Gideon Gallo played his guitar and sang “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.” Jay presided at the business meeting.

Evening Circle met at Kay Ritter’s on Dec. 18 for a salad supper. There were eight members present, and everyone enjoyed the salads and other goodies Ritter had and an evening of visiting.

The Young Women’s group also met Dec. 5 at Kay Ritter’s home. They shared a meal together and made plans to go shopping for a family in need for Christmas.

The next Executive meeting will be Jan. 8, with circles meeting Jan. 15.
