“We played outstanding defense and made smart decisions throughout the game,” Southwest Valley coach Allen Naugle said. “We were able to stay calm and make smart decisions against Lenox’s press. Hopefully we can carry this momentum with us to Southeast Warren.

Bedford 59,

East Union 6

AFTON — A young East Union squad could never get going against Class 1A third-ranked Bedford Tuesday in a 59-6 defeat.

A 31-0 first quarter set up a 44-4 halftime command for the unbeaten Bulldogs. Nine different Bedford players scored, led by Callie Calfee with 13, McKenzie Jackson with 12 and Fallyn Beemer with 11. Calfee had seven rebounds and a team-high eight steals among the team’s 22 total steals.

Chelsea Hoyt scored four points with four rebounds for East Union. Danielle Riley had two points and six rebounds.

“We knew it would be a tough game for us, but between the injuries and illnesses we were short on players and especially ball handlers,” East Union coach Carol McGuire said. “Bedford has a very good team with no seniors. We had a hard time breaking their press and when we did, we couldn’t get anything going with our offense.”

The Eagles travel to Corydon Friday to face Wayne for the final game before the holiday break.
