Panther bowlers swept in home opener

The Creston/O-M bowling teams lost a varsity sweep at the hands of Denison-Schleswig here Saturday in the home opener.

The Panther boys lost 2549-1991, while the Creston/O-M girls lost 2367-2150.

“Today’s match with Denison was another exercise in the celebration of several great shots and also the realization that we still have many things we need to work on,” Creston/O-M head coach Ron Pendegraft said.

The varsity girls overcame a slow start, but dug themselves too big of a hole after the first game of round one.

Junior Madison Hance led the Panthers with a two-game series of 303. Charley Parcher bowled a 282, while Ashley Knipfer rolled a 267 and Jenna Hayes finished with a 266. Kimberly Orr finished the day with a score of 225.

“I’m sure none of the girls were very satisfied with today, but we still have a lot of time to get to where we need to be,” Pendegraft said.

Blake Eddy led the Creston/O-M boys with consistent games of 187 and 194 to post a two-game series of 381.

Freshman Jonathan Seals recorded a series of 270, while Reece Kramer bowled a 264. Dylan Linch finished with a score of 250 and Evan Taylor bowled a 173.

“In the boys match, our team scores were slightly below where we had hoped for the day,” Pendegraft said. “The two bright spots for today were Dylan and Jonathan, who continue to show great improvement. I am very pleased with how they have been developing. If this continues, I am convinced the boys have it in them to be very competitive by the end of the season when we need to be.”

The Panthers return to action Saturday at Shenandoah in their final match before the Christmas break.

The Creston/O-M girls JV team was involved in yet another match that came down right to the end, this time coming out on the winning side.

“They started slowly, but really came on in the second game and held on in the Baker round to win the match on the last shot,” Pendegraft said.

Mackenzie McKinney led the way with a 271 series for the Panthers in the 1670-1665 victory.
