Pulmonology now being offered in Adair County

GREENFIELD — Beginning Dec. 16, Adair County Health System will be offering a pulmonary clinic from its specialty clinic at the hospital. Sherif O. El-Mahdy, MD, will be holding a clinic once a month in Greenfield.

Pulmonologists are experts in the evaluation of patients with breathing or lung problems; such as shortness of breath, chronic cough and abnormal chest X-rays.

Dr. El-Mahdy was born in Trondheim, Norway. He obtained his medical degree from University of Alexandria in Egypt. He completed his internal medicine residency training at Michigan State University where he was chief resident, as well. He then completed fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary and critical care medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Chest Physicians and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. His clinical interests include diagnostic and interventional bronchoscopy, Alpha One Anti-Trypsin Deficiency and use of ultrasound in ICU.

Dr. El-Mahdy resides with his wife and daughter in West Des Moines.
