Adair County 4-H clubs, 4-H’ers recognized

GREENFIELD — Adair County 4-H clubs were recognized for their outstanding work during the group’s annual 4-H Awards Day Nov. 16th at the Warren Cultural Center in Greenfield.

The Washington Stars were honored as recipients of the initial Adair County Outstanding Club Achievement Award for Member Record Book Completion with 72 percent of their club membership completing record books this year. Adair County Corn and Soybean Association is the sponsor of this award to be given annually to the club with the highest percent of their club members completing a 4-H record book. The plaque will be on display in the Adair County Extension Office with a plate added each year showing the year, club name, and percent of members completing record books. The award also included a $100 cash donation to the club to be used in celebration of their achievement.

The Adair County Hot Shots were honored as the Outstanding 4-H Club of the year. Farmers Electric Cooperative, Inc., provided a $75 cash award to the outstanding 4-H club.

Other club honors went to the Adair County Wing Walkers for their community involvement efforts. The Summit Super Stars were honored for their communication skills and out-of-county participation. The Wing Walkers and Summit Super Stars each received a $25 cash award sponsored by the Paul and Gini Herr family of Fontanelle.

Individual 4-H’ers were also recognized for tenure, record book completion, and project work during the ceremony. 4-H records encourage youth to set goals, record their progress, and reflect on what they’ve learned and achieved. A group of individuals and businesses committed to 4-H and the record book concept have formed a group known as Friends of 4-H Record Keepers to recognize 4-H’ers who complete records. Their contributions make it possible to award every 4-H’er who completes a record book with $10.

First year record keepers also received a 4-H sign provided by First National Bank of Fontanelle/Greenfield/Massena/Anita/Correctionville. The Paul and Gini Herr family provided coupons redeemable for a complimentary record book to all new members to encourage them to keep records of their 4-H experiences.
