Murray 3,

Diagonal 1

MURRAY — Diagonal took the first set from host Murray here Tuesday in a Class 1A regional opener before falling to the Lady Mustangs 3-1.

“The girls played well throughout the whole match,” Diagonal head coach Allison Hajek said. “All of the girls played with so much heart and enthusiasm. There were so many wonderful digs. It was such a great game to watch. This was a great match to finish the season. We are already looking forward to next season, because eight of the nine girls will be returning.”

Kaitlyn Klommhaus led the team with 12 digs, while Kasydi Klommhaus finished with nine digs and Jaci Haidsiak had eight digs.

Haidsiak set 10 assists, while Kaitlyn Klommhaus, Allison Norris and Megan Davenport each recorded three kills. Kasydi Klommhaus and Katie Sobotka each had two kills. Norris and Cassie Lohmann each had one block. Stormie Buchanan, Kasydi Klommhaus, Davenport and Norris all served one ace in the match.

“Kaitlyn Klommhaus was our only senior player this year,” Hajek said. “She has played for me since she was in the eighth grade. It has been such a pleasure to watch her mature as a young woman and athlete. She has been a wonderful leader and role model for this team.”
