Women Managing Cattle course to be held in Clarinda

CLARINDA — Iowa State University Extension (ISU) and Outreach is offering Women Managing Cattle in Clarinda. The course will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 6, 13, and 20 at Page County Extension, 311 E. Washington St.

Women Managing Cattle gives farm women the opportunity to interact with others who face the same challenges of bringing cattle to market. Sessions provide education and support materials for costs of production, marketing plans, alternative markets, pasture management and pasture watering options.

Instructors from ISU Extension and Outreach are Tim Eggers, field agricultural economist; Joe Sellers, beef field specialist; and Shawn Shouse, field agricultural engineer. All three have been helping farm families meet their business goals for many years.

“Higher prices mean there is more at risk when deciding to sell at weaning, backgrounding, or finishing,” said Eggers. “We will provide the resources and tools participants need to make decisions based on their herds.”

The cost for Women Managing Cattle is $50, which includes support materials and a light dinner. Enrollment is limited to encourage lively discussion.

Registration is due by Nov. 3. Page County Agricultural Extension District is sponsoring the course.
