Voters of Iowa, this Nov. 4 election is important to you

From Monica McCarthy, chairperson of Union County Democratic Party

Creston

As a citizen of Iowa, this election has more influence on your everyday life than most past elections — including presidential years. Almost all elected officials representing you in both Washington, D.C., and Des Moines are up for election Nov. 4.

Nationally, one U.S. Senator and the 3rd Congressional District U.S. House of Representatives positions are open.

Statewide, All elected state officials from governor, attorney general to secretary of state are also up for election now.

This area of Iowa has both Iowa House and Iowa Senate seats to be elected in November. These are the folks that represent you at the State of Iowa Legislature. They write and vote on the laws that affect you as a citizen of Iowa.

Since this will be a large, extensive ballot, we recommend voting by mail using an absentee ballot. File a form with your county auditor or party representative to have your ballot mailed directly to your house. You can fill out the ballot at your convenience, right in your own living room or at the kitchen table. You can reference the internet or newspapers for information to help in making your choices.

This sets an excellent example for the whole family to witness all family adults over 18 years of age participate in the voting process. You just fill out the ballot and place it in the self-addressed stamped envelope. Don’t forget to sign the security envelope where it is requested.

Thank you for participating in the democratic process.
