Raiderettes 3-1

DES MOINES Mount Ayr improved to 8-3 for the season with a 3-1 night at the Des Moines Christian Tournament Thursday night.

The Raiderettes started the night with a 2-0 loss to Des Moines Christian before earning 2-0 sweeps of Newton, Grinnell and Van Meter.

“I think we came out scared of Des Moines Christian to start the night,” said Raiderette coach Tori Braby. “We have played them in years past and gotten slaughtered. But I would like to have had them again by the end of the night.”

Allie Shields left after the first game with illness, and Tessa Shields stepped in to provide a spark, Braby said. I don’t have one girl to brag on tonight, all the girls on the court had greatness at one point in the night.”

Blair Glendenning had 16 digs and Sadie Frost had six solo blocks in the 23-21, 21-7 loss to Des Moines Christian. Kelcie Shields had six kills.

Mount Ayr edged Newton 21-19, 22-20. Kelcie Shields had eight kills and five blocks. Alyssa Johnson and Macy Larson split the setting duties with eight assists each. Glendenning had 17 digs. Johnson served two aces.

Kelcie Shields had 12 kills and five solo blocks in a 21-15, 21-15 win over Grinnell. Glendenning and Frost combined for 25 digs.

Kelcie Shields stayed hot at the net with 12 kills in a 21-9, 21-19 win over Van Meter. Glendenning had 10 digs. Tessa Shields served two aces.

Earlham 3, Lenox 0

EARLHAM — Class 2A 15th-ranked Earlham swept Lenox 25-21, 25-22, 25-15 in a competitive three-set match Thursday night.

Katie Dukes had 13 kills for the Tigers and Aurora Arevalo added 11. Arevalo had four total blocks. Hannah Mitchell had a team-high eight digs. Bethany Christensen set 18 assists and served two aces.

Murray 3, O-M 0

ORIENT — Murray cruised to a 25-11, 25-12, 25-8 victory over Orient-Macksburg Thursday to remain undefeated at 5-0 for the year, and 4-0 in the Bluegrass Conference.

O-M fell to 1-6 and 1-3.

Hannah Barber was 16-of-18 hitting with 12 kills. Shelby Myers had four kills and served 25-25 with four aces. Jade Lecy was 11-12 with three aces along with a team-high six digs and five blocks.

Brandi Gilbert had a solid night setting at 33-35 with 16 assists.

“Shelby had an outstanding night serving,” Murray coach Jerry Shields said. “Hannah, Shelby and Jade all had good nights at the net.”

O-M statistics were not available at press time.

Murray hosts triangular action against Mormon Trail and Twin Cedars on Tuesday, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
