Knee surgery

SIOUX CITY — Redshirt freshman receiver Briar Evans of Creston saw his season end before it started last weekend for the Morningside College football team.

As the third-ranked Mustangs were scrimmaging Iowa Central Community College on Friday, Evans was hit on the knee and an MRI this week determined he suffered a torn ACL and MCL ligaments.

Evans will undergo surgery next week and will miss the 2014 season. He will receive a medical redshirt year, Morningside trainers said.

Another Morningside receiver from Creston, sophomore Alan Smith, is also sidelined by a leg injury. He has been slowed since last spring with hamstring issues related to the IT band and some nerve damage. His timetable for 2014 is undetermined.
