Hurley Creek project to move forward

In early 2015, work will be bid to build a $400,000 wetland and retention basin project on Hurley Creek just north of the Adams Street bridge at Taylor Park. With a grant of $300,000, there will not just be the wetland project. Some of the grant funds will be used to do other watershed improvements near and within the creek throughout Creston.

These projects are designed to reduce soil erosion, capture and process agricultural nutrients and stabilize stream banks. Residents and property owners are able to apply for program assistance to implement projects.

The general public is invited to an educational event at the meal site in the restored Creston Depot in Uptown. The free event is to be held 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9. The one-hour forum will feature discussions about the project, about watershed improvement ideas that might work in Creston, and about funding opportunities for property owners. There is no need to RSVP.
