Jack “Weasel” Shimer, 66, of Creston died Aug. 14, 2014, at Greater Regional Medical Center.

Celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. The Rev. Chuck Spindler will officiate. Military rites will be given. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Open visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday with present 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family. Jackie Joe “Weasel” Shimer, son of Mimi Virsta (Chandler) and Johnnie Augusta Shimer, was born Sept. 3, 1947, in Creston.

Jack graduated from Creston High School in 1967.

Jack served in the United States Navy in the Construction Battalion.

On Jan. 25, 1969, Jack married Dora Marie Dudley in Creston. They lived all of their married life in Creston.

Early on, Jack worked at Purolator and as an EMT for Greater Community Hospital, both in Creston. He also drove for Schildberg Construction of Greenfield. Jack worked at Wellman Dynamics for 32 years, retiring in 2011.

Jack was a member of the American Legion Post No. 719 of Nevinville.

Jack is survived by his wife Marie Shimer of Creston; daughter Paula Shimer of Creston; son Paul Shimer of Creston; grandchildren, Jordon, Jenna and Brenna Shimer; brothers, Virgin Shimer of Creston, Albert (significant other Joy Ryonaldson) of Perry and Dell (wife Betty) Shimer of Creston; and sisters, Kay Camden of Lenox and Sandra Bolinger of Creston.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, twin sons in infancy, three grandsons; sisters, Mini Kathryn Shimer at birth and Cora Adamson; and brother Johnnie Shimer.
