Hatch makes stop in Creston Saturday

Jack Hatch, Democratic candidate for Iowa governor, made a stop in Creston Saturday afternoon speaking to about 30 voters at the Union County Democrats office on Elm Street and later taking a tour with Creston Mayor Warren Woods.

Polls released last week show Hatch is eight points behind Republican incumbent Gov. Terry Branstad with about three months to go before Election Day.

“He’s put a million (dollars) in attack ads and then came on with a million and two in advertising in how good he is — which you can expect — and we’re still only 8 points behind the governor. He’s not moving the needle,” Hatch said.

Hatch has selected Cedar Rapids city councilwoman Monica Vernon as his running mate. Hatch said — because of her background — she will be a friend to local governments and his campaign.

After a quick tour of Creston with Woods, Hatch also made stops in Corning and Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

You can see Hatch and Branstad in three televised debates this summer and fall including Aug. 14 at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines on Iowa Public Television, Sept. 20 in Burlington and Oct. 14 in Sioux City.
